We spent years in the WA mining industry watching good tradesmen miss out on jobs because their résumés didn't have the right keywords.

Guys who could strip and rebuild a CAT 793 in their sleep were getting auto-rejected because their résumé said “fixed trucks” instead of “conducted preventative maintenance on heavy mobile equipment.”

The big companies — BHP, Rio, FMG — all use ATS software that scans for specific keywords. If you don't have them, a human never sees your résumé. We started helping mates rewrite theirs. Same skills, different words. They started getting calls within days.
